Jasmin Henderson Inks with Lady Cardinals Basketball

Dec. 11, 2008

BEAUMONT - Jasmin Henderson, a 5-9 guard from Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas, has signed with Lamar University to play women's basketball for the Lady Cardinals announced head coach Larry Tidwell.

Henderson has helped lead the Dulles Vikings to a No. 1 ranking this year in Class 5A Texas High School girl's basketball and a No. 5 national ranking by USA Today. She's averaged 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and has shot an amazing 59 percent from the field through her first three years of high school.

She is a three-time first team all district selection and has been named first team all region the past two years. The prestigious Collegiate Girls Basketball Report has her ranked as the No. 137 player in the country while having a position ranking of 27th best shooting guard on the charts.

"Signing Jasmin has definitely gotten some attention across the country," said Tidwell. "She can hit it consistently from behind the arc, get it to the rim, and brings a physical style of play that will fit our conference. Jasmin is a team first player and those are hard to find.

"She has played at Dulles for legendary coach Doug Lechtenberger and she will come to Lamar with a very good pedigree on knowing the game. Plus, her dad Terrul, and mom Denise both are high school basketball coaches so you know there is some basketball being discussed every night around the dinner table.

Her father is the head boys coach at Port Arthur Memorial High School while her mother coaches in the Aldine ISD school district.

Henderson has also played for the highly rated Cy-Fair Heat and Cy-Fair Shock during her summer AAU jaunts and has played in high profile arenas throughout her career.

"Jasmin is a seasoned player," emphasized Tidwell. "She should be an immediate impact on next year's team."
