Lamar Finishes Third At Koasati Pines Collegiate Classic

KINDER, La. - The Lamar women's golf team finished in third place at the Koasati Pines Collegiate Classic, falling two spots after the first day in the 54-hole event hosted by McNeese State at Koasati Pines.

Lamar shot 306-300-316 for a two-day total of 922, two shots back of tournament winner Florida International and one back of runner-up South Alabama. The Cardinals' day one total of 606 gave them a two shot lead over Central Arkansas and three over USA.

Individually, Hillary Zeigler tied for seventh with a 228 (80-73-75) for her second top-5 finish in the last three events. Channing Norton turned in her best performance of the year as she opened the tourney with a career-low 74 to propel her to a tie for ninth overall at 229 (74-76-79).

Linda Persson tied for 15th with a 233 (79-71-83) but her second-round score of 71 was tied for the second-lowest of the tournament. Other scores for the Cardinals included Therese Nilsson who tied for 26th at 237 (73-80-84) and Bonnie Howard who tied for 34th at 239 (80-80-79).

Lina Nilsson-Balfe competed as an individual and tied for 17th with a 234 (78-77-79).

Lamar was the top finisher among the eight Southland schools that participated.
