Norton, Lamar Lead Islander Spring Classic After 36 Holes

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Channing Norton shot a 147 to pace the Lamar women's golf team to a seven-stroke lead following the first two rounds of play in the Islander Spring Classic at the Corpus Christi Country Club on Monday.

Norton carded rounds of 72 and 75 for two of the six lowest totals among the 62-player field. Her opening round score of even-par 72 was the low-round of the tournament and the lowest of her LU career.

Lamar shot 309 and led by one shot over Oral Roberts after the first round before turning in a 307 to head into Tuesday's final round with a 616 and a seven-stroke lead over McNeese State.

Therese Nilsson posted a pair of 77s and sits in a tie for sixth place, Linda Persson shot 79-77 and is tied for 15th, Lina Nilsson-Balfe recorded rounds of 81-77 and finds herself tied for 20th while Hillary Zeigler is tied for 38th after she totaled 163.

Bonnie Howard fired consecutive rounds of 78-78 and is tied for 12th as an individual.

The tournament will conclude with a single round on Tuesday morning.
