LU Women Tied For Third After Opening Round 311 At Lady Jaguar Invite

MOBILE, Ala. -- Therese Nilsson fired a first-round 74 to lead the Lamar women's golf team to an 18-hole total of 311 and a tie for third place at the half-way mark of the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational at the Azalea City Golf Course. Nilsson had nines of 37-37 and is tied with three other golfers for fourth place. A pack of three lead the race for medalist honors at 73. Hillary Zeigler (38-39--77) and Lina Nilsson-Balfe (39-40--79) also posted sub-80 scores for the Lady Cardinals. Linda Persson shot an 81 and Channing Norton had 82 for Lamar, which is tied with with Belmont. East Tennessee State leads the 18-team field with a 301, seven strokes ahead of Southern Miss at 308. Jacksonville State (312) and McNeese State (313) round out the top six schools. The tournament will conclude with the final round on Tuesday morning.
