Lady Cardinals Sweep Lamar/Sam Houston State Invitational Titles

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Therese Nilsson and Hillary Zeigler claimed the top two individual spots to lead Lamar to a 19-shot victory at the Lamar/Sam Houston State Invitational at the Raven Nest Golf Club Tuesday.

Lamar shot two of the three lowest rounds in the 36-hole event en route to a 302-295--597 finish. Oklahoma City was second at 311-305--616, Redlands third at 321-301--622 and Sam Houston State fourth at 309-315--624.

All six Lady Cardinals finished in the top-20 with four among the top -11. Lamar won a team title for the second time in its last three events.

Nilsson shared the lead after the first round with a 73 and turned in a second-round 70 for a 143 total. Zeigler struggled with a 77 after the first 18 holes and stood in a tied for tenth place before posting the only sub-70 score in the tournament with a 69 for a 146.

Linda Persson tied for eighth at 74-78--152. Bonnie Howard recorded a 76-77--153 total as an individual and tied for 11th. Channing Norton and Lina Nilsson-Balfe each had a round count toward the team score with tourney totals of 78-79--157 and 80-78--158, respectively.

Lamar will have just under four weeks off before its next event. The Lady Cardinals will participate in the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate, April 8-9, in San Marcos, Texas.
