AUGUSTA, Ga. -
The Lamar Lady Cardinals' golf team fired a 302 Saturday in the second round of the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate to move into a tie for 11th place (332-305 - 637) with Chattanooga on the par 72 Forest Hills Golf Club course.
"We had a much better round today compared to Friday's opening round," said head coach Brian White. "This is a very competitive field with a lot of ranked teams, and you have to take advantage of every opportunity and we haven't done that here. We played better today and still have one round remaining to try and climb the leaderboard."
Freshman Bertille DuPont has recorded the team's two lowest rounds and is the lone Lady Cardinal among the field's overall top 25. She is currently tied for 24th with an 81-73 - 154. Dupont is only four strokes up on classmate Wenny Chang who fired an identical 73 in the second round, but is trying to overcome and opening-round 85. Chang enters Sunday's final round tied for 34th overall.
Junior Nghi Ngo, sophomore Taylor Stockton and freshman Kelly Erasmus will be fighting to climb the leaderboard in Sunday's final round of 18 holes. The trio is currently tied for 55th overall with a 164. Ngo duplicated her 10-over 82 from Friday, while Stockton (85-79) cut six strokes from her opening round and Erasmus (84-80) cut four strokes from Friday's round.
The Lady Cardinals will close out the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate Sunday with the final round of action. Lamar is set to tee off at 1:30 p.m., and will be paired with Purdue and Chattanooga.
