MARICOPA, Ariz. - Sophomore Taylor Stockton became the first female player to record a hole-in-one during a tournament at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club Tuesday when she knocked one in from 128 yards out. Stockton fired a team-low 72 in the final round of the Cowgirl Classic Tuesday to help guide Lamar to a fifth-place finish (301-298-304 - 903).

"Taylor had a great round for us today, but we just were not able to close things out like we have been in the past," said head coach Brian White. "We have a very young team so bringing home a fifth-place finish from a tournament with so many talented teams is nothing to hang your heads about. This was a good final warm up before conference play. Now we have to get focused on next week because everybody is going to be ready for us. We have to be mentally prepared to defend our title."

Stockton finished the tournament with the team's third-lowest score. She carded a three-round 77-79-72 - 228 to finish tied for 22nd overall.

Freshman Bertille DuPont led Lamar with a top-10 finish. Dupont fired a 76-74-75 - 225 to finish in a six-way tie for 10th. Dupont was only two strokes ahead of junior Nghi Ngo who closed out the day with a 77-73-77 - 228. Ngo's 11-over par score placed her tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard.

Ngo was one of three Lady Cardinal golfers who finished the day just a stroke ahead of a teammate. Ngo ended the tournament just a stroke up on Stockton, who was a shot ahead of freshman Wenny Chang. One of three freshmen competing at the Cowgirl Classic, Chang struggled in the final round recording an eight-over par, but finished the tournament with a 13-over 229 (74-75-80). Chang ended the day tied for 30th overall.

Classmate Kelly Erasmus closed out the Lamar scorecard with a 74-76-82. Erasmus' three-round 232 placed her in a seven-way tie for 39th overall.

The two-day Cowgirl Classic is Lamar's final tune-up before the Southland Conference Championships. The SLC tournament will begin Tuesday, April 15th and run through Thursday, April 17th at the High Meadow Ranch Golf Club.
