MAGNOLIA, Texas - The first two days of the Southland Conference Women's Golf Championships have been a battle between four teams, but the Lamar Lady Cardinals have placed themselves in a strong position to win their second consecutive title with their performance Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Cardinals fired a 299 on the par-72 High Meadow Ranch Golf Club course Tuesday to take a five-stroke lead (304-299 - 603) over Oral Roberts into the final round of action.

After the first round, Lamar was tied with Central Arkansas, only one stroke up on Sam Houston State. Both UCA and Sam Houston struggled in the second round while the Golden Eagles caught fire. ORU recorded the best round of the day, but Lamar was only two strokes behind and entered the round seven up on the Golden Eagles.

"We played a much better round today as a team," said head coach Brian White. "I think we played a little nervous yesterday, which is to be expected with such a young team. Our start tomorrow is going to be key. We can't let up now. We need to come out tomorrow and close the door."

Lamar enters the final day with four players on the leaderboard's top 10, including one in contention for the overall title.

Although she entered the tournament as Lamar's No. 5 player, freshman Kelly Erasmus is leading the Lady Cards scorecard with a 76-73 - 149. She is currently tied for second only four strokes off the lead.

Junior Nghi Ngo is only three strokes back of Erasmus with 18 holes left to play. Ngo has fired a four-over 76 in each round and is currently tied for seventh with a 152. Sophomore Taylor Stockton and freshman Bertille DuPont are just a stroke back of Ngo. Stockton and Dupont are tied for ninth with a nine-over 153.

Freshman Wenny Chang rounds out the LU scorecard with a 75-80 - 155. She is currently tied for 16th heading into Tuesday's final round of action.

The Lady Cardinals will step back on the course Thursday at 10 a.m. for the final round of action. LU will tees off of No. 1 and will be paired with Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas.
