Lamar Sits In Third After First Day Of SLC Women's Golf Championship

Led by Channing Norton's 75, the Lamar women's golf team sits in third place at 305 following the first round of the 2008 Southland Conference Championship at Beaumont Country Club.
The Cardinals sit five shots back of tournament leader Texas State at 300 and two behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 304. Sam Houston State sits in fourth at 306 and Central Arkansas is fifth at 308.
Norton's four-over score puts her in a tie for eighth with Sehee Kim of Texas State. Therese Nilsson is tied for tenth after a first-round 76, while Linda Persson and Hillary Zeigler recording a 77 each. Bonnie Howard is among the top half of the 40-player field in a tie for 19th after a 78. Howard was the only player to post an eagle on Monday, doing so on the par-5 11th hole.
Linn Gustafsson of Texas State leads after 18 holes with an even-par 71. Lacy McKinley of McNeese State and Ashley Watkins of A&M-Corpus Christi are tied for second at one-over 72. Landa Stewart Sam Houston State and Melissa Fahey of A&M-Corpus Christi round out the top-5 at 73.
UTSA and Nicholls State will be paired together for the first five groups from 8:00-8:32 a.m., followed by McNeese State, Central Arkansas and Sam Houston State from 8:40-9:20 a.m., with Lamar, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas State from 9:30-10:10 a.m.
