Persson Finishes In Fourth At SLC Women's Golf Championship

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Lamar's Linda Persson shot a final round 75 to finish in a tie for fourth at the Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Lake Charles Country Club Wednesday.
Persson's 76-74-75 rounds gave her a 225 total and her best finish in three SLC tourneys. She tied for 15th in 2007 and tied for 13th last year.
Therese Nilsson closed out her career with an 81 and a tie for 12t with a 230 total. Channing Norton tied for 19th after a final round 79 put her 54-hole score at 233.
Fabienne Haremza closed out her first SLC Tourney with an 82 for a 246 total and a tie for 36th. Lina Nilsson-Balfe finished in 38th with a total of 247 after an 85 on Wednesday.
Lamar struggled as a team and dropped to seventh place following a team score of 317 which gave it a tournament total of 932.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the title in dramatic fashion as the Islanders posted three birdies on the final hole for a 912 total, one stroke ahead of UTSA at 913. The Roadrunners led for the nine preceding holes before a double bogey in the final group saw them drop from a one-shot lead to a one-shot deficit. UTSA's Allie Jordan claimed medalist honors with a 222 total, two strokes ahead of A&M-Corpus Christi's Ashley Watkins and McNeese State's Lacy McKinley.
