GERMANTOWN, Tenn. -
Lamar fired its lowest round of the two-day FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon to finish third overall (310-301-297 - 908). The Lady Cardinals ended the tournament by posting the tournament's third-lowest round on the par-71 Ridgeway Country Club course.
"I thought we played well today closing out the tournament," said head coach Brian White. "Finishing third in the first event is a good accomplishment. I'm very proud of our freshmen. They played okay in the first round, which is to be expected, and really came back with two good rounds.
"It is always tough to lose your top player but we are deeper this year. I'm thrilled with the start and I expect us to get better every tournament, but this is just the first tournament of the season,"
Sophomore Taylor Stockton jumped into the overall top 10 by carding a one-over par 72 in the final round. She finished the week tied for ninth overall with a 12-over 223. Following her lead, junior Nghi Ngo recorded her lowest round on the tournament's final day. Ngo shot a two-over 73 to finish the tournament tied for 14th with a 74-81-73 - 228.
Ngo finished in a tie with freshmen teammates Bertille DuPont and Wenny Chang. The duo started the day tied for 14th, and ended the day in the same place after carding a four-over par 76 in the final 18 holes.
Senior Katelyn McDougal was never able to find her stroke in the season's opening tournament. She finished the day 48th after recording an 80 in the final round (247).
The Lady Cardinals return to action Monday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Monroe, La., to compete in the Fred Marx Invitational. The two day tournament will run through Tuesday and will be the first of three consecutive weeks of competition for the women.
