MONROE, La. - Lamar placed three golfers in the top five on the first day of the Fred Marx Invitational and head into Tuesday's final round of action with a four-stroke lead over tournament host Louisiana-Monroe, 585-589. The Lady Cardinals carded a nine-over 296-289 - 585 on the 6,114-yard, par-72 Bayou DeSiard Country Club course.

"I'm really proud of how our younger girls played today," said head coach Brian White. "They have done a good job of staying focused despite playing against teams more experienced than they are. Anytime you have a sophomore and two freshmen as your top three after the first day, and they are in the overall top five, that gives you reason to be excited. Now they need to come out focused tomorrow morning, because we still have 18 holes to play and this is a very talented field."

Three underclassmen set the tone for Lamar as sophomore Taylor Stockton and freshmen Wenny Chang and Bertille DuPont are among the overall top five with 18 holes to play. Stockton finished the day at even par with rounds of 71 and 73 to place third overall. Stockton currently sits just a stroke better than Chang who carded a 75-70. DuPont registered consecutive rounds of one over par and is just two strokes back of Stockton.

Junior Nghi Ngo finished the day among the top 10. After a tough first round, Ngo battled back in the second to post a one-over 73. She is currently tied for 10th with a 77-73 - 150. Senior Katelyn McDougal ended the day tied for 41st overall after posting a 78-79 - 157.

The Lady Cardinals will go in search of their first team title of the season Tuesday when they return to the course for the final round of the Fred Marx Invitational. The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
