The Lamar Lady Cardinal golf team suffered a heartbreaking setback Tuesday afternoon at the Fred Marx Invitational in Monroe, La. LU entered the day with a four stroke-lead but was edged out by tournament host Louisiana-Monroe, 884-885. Lamar fired a 300 in the final round on the 6,114-yard, par-72 Bayou DeSiard Country Club course but the Warhawks finished the day with a 295.

"Clearly, we are disappointed not walking away with the victory," said head coach Brian White. "Give credit to Louisiana-Monroe because they made the shots they needed all day. We had some opportunities but couldn't finish it out. This is a learning experience for our team. We will learn from it and get better.

"We are a very young team, and I thought we played well. Anytime you place three underclassmen in the top 10 you have to be pleased. We just missed some opportunities that ULM took advantage of," added White.

Lamar's underclassmen recorded another strong showing Tuesday with a sophomore and two freshmen in the top 10. Sophomore Taylor Stockton was impressive just missing an individual title, while freshmen Wenny Change and Bertille DuPont held their top-10 spots from Monday.

Stockton led Lamar jumping one spot on the final day finishing second overall with an even par 71-73-72 - 216. Chang finished four strokes back of Stockton with a 75-70-74 - 220. She finished tied for fourth overall. Classmate Bertille DuPont carded a five-over 77 after her consecutive rounds of 73 Monday. DuPont finished tied for seventh with her three-round 223.

Junior Nghi Nho carded a four-over par in the final round, but dropped three places in the standings. Ngo finished in a five-way tie for 13th with a three-round 77-73-76 - 226. Senior Katelyn McDougal rounded out the scoring for Lamar by finishing tied for 48th with a 239.

The Lady Cardinals return to action Monday when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the ORU Shootout.
