Jennel Alexander Posts Low Rounds At ORU Invitational

Oct. 6, 2008

TULSA, Okla. - Lamar freshman Jennel Alexander turned in back-to-back low rounds on Monday to lead Lamar to a third place standing following 36 holes of the ORU Shootout at Meadowbrook Country Club.

Alexander opened her day with a 75 to mark her best competition round in college before knocking a shot off for a career-best 74 in the afternoon. She is in fifth place at 149 - six strokes behind Oral Roberts' Christy Carter at 143.

"We had 25 mile-per-hour winds and rain most of the day so the scoring conditions weren't too good but Jennel did a good job of keeping us in contention," Lamar assistant coach Dusty Smith said. "She hits the ball pretty low so it definitely helped her out today."

Senior Therese Nilsson and Channing Norton are tied for 18th after posting 156 totals. Nilsson rebounded from a first-round 80 with a 76, which Norton matched Alexander with a 75 in the morning before recording an 81.

Junior Linda Persson is tied for 30th after 81-78--159, three shots ahead of classmate Lina Nilsson-Balfe at 79-83--162.

Lamar shot matching 309s and is alone in third at 618. ORU is in first at 606, UTEP is second at 610 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is fourth at 623.

Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Central time.
