Junior Nghi Ngo fired a three-under par 141 Monday afternoon on the par 71 Raven's Nest Golf Course to claim the top spot on the leaderboard after the first two rounds. Lamar claimed the top two individual spots and takes a three-stroke lead, 581-584, over tournament host Sam Houston State into Tuesday's final round.
Ngo is receiving the toughest competition for the Harold Funston individual title from freshman teammate Wenny Chang. One of two rookies on the Lamar squad, Chang fired consecutive rounds of 71 and enters the final round a stroke back of Ngo with a 142.
Classmate Bertille DuPont sits just outside the top 10 after 36 holes. DuPont was four over in the first round, while posting a two-over 73 in the second. She is currently tied for 11th with a 148. Sophomore Taylor Stockton recorded the team's fourth-lowest score of the day. She fired a 76-74 - 150 is tied for 18th with 18 holes to play.
Senior Katelyn McDougal turned in the strongest turnaround of the day. After struggling with an 83 in the opening round, the Lady Cardinals' lone senior finished out the day with a three-over 74. She enters the final round of action tied for 34th with a 157.
The Lady Cardinals will try and lock up their second consecutive tournament title Tuesday when they return to the course. The final round is slated to tee off at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
