DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Lamar University's Julie Aime and Katelyn McDougal each posted first round 76s to help the Lady Cardinal golf team to a fifth place tie after the first round of the Xavier LPGA Invitational.
Playing on the par-72, 6,084-yard LPGA Legends Course, Aime and McDougal are tied for ninth in the field of 78 golfers. Mitsuki Katahira of Daytona State College has a one-stroke lead after opening with an impressive 69.
Lamar and host Xavier are tied for fifth after shooting identical team scores of 310. Montana, which opened with a 299 total, leads the field of 14 schools. Daytona State and Campbell are tied for second at 305, while Florida Atlantic shot a 309 for fourth place.
Senior Ashley Thorpe was the other Lady Cardinal to break 80 as she carded a 78 and is tied for 19th place. Sarah Nicholas and Stine Pedersen each shot 80 for Lamar and are tied for 38th place.
Play will continue on Saturday morning in the 54-hole event, with the final round on Sunday.
