Persson & Pedersen Pace Lamar On First Day Of Xavier Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Linda Persson and Stine Pedersen both turned in top-10 performances following Friday's first round of the LPGA International Xavier Invitational at the LPGA International Legend's Course.

Persson's 70 placed her in a tie for first with Teresa Urquizu of Campbell as they were among just four players in the 81-player field to complete the par 72, 6.087-yard layout under par. The LU senior played the par fours at 2-under-par - the lowest in the tournament.

Pederson, who was named the Southland Conference's Golfer of the Month for September, matched Persson with four birdies on the day as she sits in a tie for ninth.

The Lamar quintet combined to shoot 305 and finds itself in seventh place with two rounds to play. Daytona State College is in first after shooting a 295, with Campbell in second at 298, Augusta State in third at 299, Xavier in fourth at 301 and South Dakota State in fifth at 303.

Lamar's other players include freshman Lauren Van Gerven, who is tied for 46th at 79, junior transfer Ashley Thorpe, who is tied for 63rd at 82 and sophomore Fabienne Haremza, who is tied for 74th after an 84.

The second round of the 54-hole event will be played on Saturday. The Lady Cardinals are paired with Montana and Jacksonville.
