DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Lamar University sophomore Julie Aime shot a final round 77 on Sunday to finish in 14th place and help the Lady Cardinal golf team to a sixth place finish in the Xavier LPGA Invitational.
The Lady Cardinals had their best round as a team on Sunday, shooting a 307 on the par-72, 6,084-yard LPGA Legends Course. Daytona State College won the 14-team event with an 894 team total for 54 holes. Montana (907), host Xavier (915), Campbell (920), Stetson (925) and Lamar (927) rounded out the top six.
Aime opened the tournament with a 76 before back-to-back 77s left her in 14th place. Senior Ashley Thorpe was the other Lady Card to shoot three straight rounds in the 70s as she shot 78-78-76=232 (+16) for a 22nd place tie.
Mitsuki Katahira of Daytona State shot six-under par for the tournament to win individual medalist honors by eight strokes over Stetson's Alex Buelow.
LU junior Sarah Nicholas and freshman Katelyn McDougal tied for 28th place in the 78-player field. Nicholas shot 80-77-77, while McDougal carded scores of 76-80-78.
Lamar's final golfer was senior Stine Pedersen who opened with an 80, but followed with rounds of 78 and 77 to shoot a three-day total of 235 and tie for 33rd place.
The Lady Cardinals will continue their fall schedule on Oct. 1 as they open play in the McNeese State Invitational from Lake Charles Country Club.
