HOUMA, La. - Hillary Zeigler placed third and the Lamar University women's golf team finished third Tuesday at the rain-shortened L.D.R. Investments/Lady Colonel Collegiate hosted by Nicholls State at Ellendale Country Club (Par-72, 6,090-yards).
The tournament was originally scheduled for 36 holes, but inclement weather forced the postponement of Monday's first round and Tuesday's second 18 holes was cancelled. The nine-team field completed the opening round Tuesday and the tournament was reduced to an 18-hole event.
Zeigler, a senior from Livingston, shot a 2-under par 36-34--70. Wendy Joyner of Sam Houston State and Nicole Forshner of Central Arkansas were tied at 3-under 69 following 18 holes. Joyner won a playoff to claim medalist honors.
Sam Houston State claimed the team title with a 292 total. UCA was second at 302 and Lamar was third at 303.
Therese Nilsson, a junior from Vellinge, Sweden, tied for eighth place at 3-over 75. Linda Persson, a sophomore from Hollviken, Sweden, tied for 11th at 5-over 77. Channing Norton, a junior from Cleveland, placed 29th at 81. Bonnie Howard, a senior from Carrollton, tied for 30th with an 82.
The Lady Cardinals continue their fall schedule Nov. 5-6 at the Texas State Invitational.
