Persson Finishes Second In Playoff, Lamar Second Overall At Cowgirl Fall Invitational

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Lamar senior Linda Persson continued her strong play this fall and a two-over par 74 on Tuesday landed her in a playoff for the medalist title at the Cowgirl Fall Invitational at Lake Charles Country Club. But it wasn't meant to be as Persson's three-footer for par on the second extra hole proved her undoing before C.J. Bobbitt converted her two-foot par putt to claim the individual title. Both players had birdied the first playoff hole. Persson and Bobbitt both finished the 54-hole tournament with matching 224s, 8-over-par. It was the LU golfer's second top-five finish in four fall events and put her stroke average at a team-best 75.61 for the fall season. As a team, Lamar maintained its second-place standing from the end of the first day with a second-consecutive 304 and a 922 three-round total. Lamar had a team title, Tuesday's runner-up finish, a tie for ninth and a 10th-place showing over its fall events. UCA won tournament with a 900 total after a 3-over 291 to finish its scoring. McNeese State was third at 934, McLennan Community College was fourth at 942, Sam Houston State was fifth at 948 and Stephen F. Austin was fifth at 989. Stine Pedersen closed the tournament with a 79 for a 233 total, which put her in a tie for 13th. Ashley Thorpe shot a career-best 74 on Tuesday and saw her collected a top-15 finish - at 15th - with a career-low tying 234. Lauren Van Gerven tied for 19th after a final-round 78 gave her a 238 score. Jennel Alexander matched her 78 and tied for 23rd at 242.
Fabienne Haremza carded her lowest round of the fall with a 77 and tied for 19th at 238, while playing as an individual. Lamar will open its spring season on March 2, when it tavels to Mobile, Ala., for the USA Lady Jaguar Classic. 2 Lamar University 314 304 304 922 |
