BASTROP - Led by junior Therese Nilsson, the Lamar University women's golf team is in eighth place following Sunday's first two rounds at the 2007 Challenge at Wolfdancer hosted by Texas State at Wolfdancer Golf Club (Par-72, 6,093-yards).
Nilsson, a junior from Vellinge, Sweden, opened with a 77 in the morning and followed with a round of even-par 72 in the afternoon and is tied for fourth place at 5-over 149. Morgan Hale and Taryn Durham of Middle Tennessee share the 36-hole lead at 2-over 146.
Middle Tennessee holds the 36-hole team lead with a 603 total. Northwestern is second at 605 followed by Iowa State (609), Baylor (619) and North Texas (623) to round out the top five in the 13-team field. Lamar shot an opening round 310 and posted a 317 in the afternoon. The Lady Cardinals are alone in eighth place at 627.
Hillary Zeigler, a senior from Livingston, is tied for 32nd place after carding rounds of 77-82--159. Linda Persson, a sophomore from Hollviken, Sweden, is tied for 42nd after posting rounds of 77-84--161. Channing Norton, a junior from Cleveland, is also tied at 42nd following rounds of 79-82--161. Bonnie Howard, a senior from Carrollton, is tied for 49th at 81-81--162.
The field will complete the 54-hole event Monday with the final 18 holes beginning with a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start.
