BROUSSARD, La. - The Lamar Lady Cardinals fired an opening round 304 and are currently third after the opening round at the LeTriomphe Collegiate in Broussard, La. Lamar is just six strokes back of tournament leader Louisiana-Monroe, 298-304. Houston Baptist enters the second day of action just two strokes ahead of the Lady Cardinals.

Freshman Wenny Chang appears to have picked up where she left off during the fall. Chang carded a one-over 73 on the par 72 LeTriomphe Golf and Country Club course to finish the day in a three-way tie for fifth. Chang ended the day just a stroke ahead of sophomore Taylor Stockton who is tied for eighth after 18 holes of action.

"I felt like we played a solid round of golf for it being our first tournament since the fall," said head coach Brian White. "We received a couple of good rounds from Wenny (Chang) and Taylor (Stockton) at the top of our lineup, but we need to close the gap with our three, four and five. The good thing about this tournament is it is spread out over three days. The girls will get a chance to pace themselves on the course."

Freshman Bertille DuPont ended the day four strokes back of Lamar's top two golfers. Dupont fired a six-over par 78 and sits in an 11-way tie for 26th overall. Junior Nghi Ngo is just a stroke back of Stockton and is tied with eight other players for 37th overall.

Newcomer Erasmus Kelly fired a nine-over 81 in her first collegiate round of golf. One of four freshman on the Lamar squad, Kelly is tied for 54th enter Monday.

Sunday marked the squad's first round of golf since it closed out the fall schedule at the Blue Raider Invitational in mid October. LU walked away with a third-place finish from that tournament.

Lamar will return to the course for the second round of 18 holes Monday beginning at 9:20 a.m. The Lady Cardinals will be paired up with Louisiana-Monroe and HBU. The Lady Cards will open the day on the back nine.
