FRISCO, Texas - Lamar junior Therese Nilsson was named the Southland Conference Athlete of the Month in women's golf for the month of February, as announced by the league office.

Nilsson won the Islander Spring Classic earlier this week with a final score of 77-77-74--228 to tie for medalist honors with teammate Channing Norton. She went on to win a playoff on the first hole to claim her fourth while at Lamar. She led the Lady Cardinals to the team title as well with a 54-hole total of 934 to edge Oral Roberts by three strokes. Two weeks earlier she finished 26th with a 237 (73-80-84) at the Koasati Pines Collegiate Classic as she helped Lamar finish third. Lamar was the top finisher among all SLC schools at both events.

Lamar will return to action next Monday and Tuesday when it participates in the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
