Sophomore Taylor Stockton has been named Southland Conference Golfer of the Month announced league officials Wednesday morning. It marks the first time in Stockton's career that she has received the honor.
Lamar has posted three top-three finishes to start the season, and is coming off a team title at the ORU Shootout in Tulsa. The Clear Lake, Texas native led Lamar in two of their first three tournaments to start the season, including two top-10 finishes.
Stockton just missed an individual title at the Fred Marx Invitational when she recorded an even par 71-73-72 - 216 to finish second overall. Prior to that, Stockton rallied on the final day of the FedEx Intercollegiate to record a ninth-place finish. Stockton posted a 74.3 stroke average in her first nine rounds of the season, and currently ranks among the league leaders in that category.
In addition to Lamar's team title in Tulsa, the Lady Cardinals also set the tournament course record. Lamar carded a 300-299-300 - 899 to win the event by 13 strokes. The Lady Cardinals took a one-stroke lead after the first round and increased its lead in each of the following rounds.
Lamar returns to action Monday when they travel to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the Harold Funston Invitational. The two-day tournament is slated to play 36 holes Monday, followed by the final 18 Tuesday.
