Lamar Women Travel To Tulsa For ORU Invitational

Oct. 5, 2008

The Lamar women's golf team will open its busiest week of the year with the ORU Invitational at Meadowbrook Country Club, Monday and Tuesday.

The Lady Cardinals will be among a field of 18 teams vying for the 54-hole team title. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Both days of competition will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

The other teams competing include tourney-host Oral Roberts, Arkansas State, Centenary, Drury, Louisiana-Monroe, McLennan Community College, Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri State, North Dakota State, Northeastern State, Northern Arizona, Oklahoma City University, Southern Nazarene, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Wichita State and UTEP.

Lamar is paired with OCU and Wichita State on Monday and will be represented by Jannel Alexander, Therese Nilsson, Lina Nilsson-Balfe, Channing Norton and Linda Persson.

Lamar finished sixth in the same event last year with a 938 total. Three LU players, including Nilsson and Persson on this year's squad, finished among the top-20 individuals. In fact, Persson's final round 71 last year was her third-lowest round all year.

Following the event in Tulsa, the team will return to Beaumont for one day and then head east to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Xavier/LPGA Invitational. That event will be played at the LPGA International from Friday-Sunday.
