FRISCO, Texas - Lamar's Therese Nilsson has been named the Southland Conference women's golfer of the month for October, the league office announced Wednesday.

Nilsson, a senior from Vellinge, Sweden, led Lamar to three top-six finishes in its final three events of the fall season. She averaged 74.3 strokes per round with four of seven rounds at 73 or better.

Nilsson captured medalist honors at the LPGA International/Xavier Invitational with a 215, including rounds of 72, 72 and 71 for a three shot victory. It was her fifth title in three years at Lamar.

She finished fifth at the LDR Investments Intercollegiate, which was hosted by Nicholls State, with a 149 total, just three strokes out of first. In Lamar's four fall events, she has posted a 75.3 stroke average with two top-five finishes.

This makrs Nilsson's third Golfer of the Month Award in the past year, adding to her back-to-back honors in February and March of 2008.

Central Arkansas' Nicole Forshner received honorable mention recognition for the award.

Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the golfers of the month, though is not permitted to vote for a player from his or her own school.
