Lamar Outshoots Navarro In 1-0 Exhibition Loss

Aug. 12, 2008

CORSICANA, Texas -- The Lamar soccer team outshot Navarro College by more than a 2-1 margin in a 1-0 exhibition defeat on Tuesday night.

The teams played three 30-minute periods with the Lady Bulldogs posting the game-winning goal late in the final period. While official statistics were not available, officials estimated LU put 17-18 of its 30 shots on goal.

In comparison to previous games with Navarro in the spring and during last year's exhibition season, Lamar generated far more offensive opportunities and scoring chances, much to the pleasure of first-year head coach Dewi Hardman.

"We showed a lot more offensive ability and played with the ball in front of us," Hardman said. "Rachelle Barry did a nice job, as did Aline Pugliesi on moving forward."

Lamar was the aggressor early on as the Cardinals put the ball on goal for much of the opening two frames, with three shots caroming off the crossbar - twice late in the first period and again in the second.

Both LU goalkeepers saw action with junior transfer Jessica Winters stopping a penalty shot in the second period.

Lamar will play host to Tyler Junior College in its final exhibition game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
