NATCHITOCHES, La. - Lamar University dropped its third straight game to open its inaugural season of women's soccer, losing 8-0 to North Texas in the first game of the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Northwestern State University at the NSU Soccer Complex.

Lamar (0-3) continues action at the Holiday Inn Express Classic Sunday at 11:30 a.m. against South Alabama. UNT will face host Northwestern State at 2 p.m.

Brittany Cleveland started the scoring for the Eagles with a goal on the corner kick at 8:26 of the opening half. Janaye Woods scored the next two goals for UNT, the first of which was deflected by Lamar goalkeeper Kelsie Binetti but still managed the find the back of the net. Woods' goals came at 10:23 and 18:50, respectively.

Cleveland added her second goal of the opening half at 21:14 on a header, which was assisted by Kendall Juett. Christie Stewart closed out the first half scoring with a goal at 37:54 to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead at intermission.

Cleveland started the second half as she opened the game, scoring her third and fourth goals. Her third goal came at 51:42 and was unassisted. Her fourth goal was another header, this time off a corner kick at 58:38 and was assisted by Katy Booth and Lindsay Lacklore.

Heather Hutyra closed out the scoring with a goal at 88:31 with Woods getting her second assist of the game.

Freshman Beth Squires led Lamar with two shots, including one on goal. Kari Melancon, Ericka Predmore and Aline Pugliesi each added on shot. For the game, UNT out shot Lamar 36 to five, including 21-1 in shots on goal. Binetti recorded 13 saves in goal for the Lady Cardinals.
