PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - After picking up the first win in program history 18 days ago, the Lamar women's soccer team collected its second win in the last five games with a 1-0 road win at Prairie View A&M Tuesday.

For Lamar (2-5), it marked the first-ever road win and first shutout in the history of the second-year program.

"It wasn't the nicest at times but after what we have been through the last couple of weeks we'll take it," said head coach Dewi Hardman in reference to the 13 days away from home due to Hurricane Ike.

Lisa Hance fed Jessica Pena in the box who gave the Cardinals the 1-0 lead in approximately the 55th minute.

The Cardinal back row and freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs, which are both appearing to hit their stride made it hold up. Lamar was also playing its second match without the services of three of its team leaders in Aline Pugliesi, Rachelle Barry and Jillian Lindsey - all of whom were injured and did not play.

The shutout also gave Hardman reason to be pleased with his defense considering the Cardinals have cut their goals allowed down from two against North Texas to one against Texas Woman's and zero on Tuesday - all on the road.

"It's a good sign we can fight through being on the rado for this long," Hardman added. "We have a number of players who are injured but they will be in the training room and back in the regular routine of being a student-athlete so I have all the confidence we will be healthy for our next game."

That next game won't be for ten days when Lamar plays host to UTSA in the Southland Conference opener next Friday, Oct. 3. Kickoff at Cardinal Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
