Lorna Maudslay's goal midway through the second half lifted the Lamar University Lady Cardinals into a 1-1 tie with visiting Houston Baptist in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday evening.
Maudslay scored on an assist from Beth Squires as Lamar (2-6-1) snapped its four-game losing streak. Jennifer Gibbs made eight saves for Lamar.
Chelsea Thornhill gave Houston Baptist (3-7-1) a 1-0 lead 17:58 into the game when she rifled a shot past Gibbs. Tori Adame picked up the assist for Houston Baptist.
Lamar outshot Houston Baptist 36-16 for the game, but the Lady Cardinals were thwarted on numerous occasions by Houston Baptist goalkeeper Shelby Horn, who finished with 11 saves.
Lamar will open up Southland Conference play with a pair of home contests this weekend. The Lady Cardinals will host Nicholls at 7 p.m. Friday and Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m. Sunday.
