Box Score

Texas State scored three second-half goals to pull away from Lamar for a 4-0 win at Cardinal Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Clinging to a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the second half, Texas State scored three goals in a five minute stretch that seemed to take the wind out of Lamar's sails. Britney Curry scored two of those three and finished with a hat trick. Erica Michaud scored the final goal of the day at the 77:34 mark.

Texas State (5-3-3, 1-0-1 Southland) held a 20-9 lead in shots and put a dozen on goal. Lamar (2-7, 0-2 SLC) finished with nine shots and three on goal.

"I thought we played hard in the first half and got a few chances but fatigue set in a bit in the second half," LU coach Dewi Hardman said. "We played a very competitive game on Friday (against UTSA) and it made it difficult on us from a fatigue standpoint to stay with Texas State.

"For 60 minutes it was a competitive game but we are still trying to build our program and get it to where we want it to be."

Texas State scored the lone goal of the first half at the 9:04 mark when Erica Michaud went took Lamar goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs on 10 yards from the goal and after trying to score, her shot went untouched in front where Curry taped the ball in from three yards.

Lamar's best chance to tie the game came late in the half when Lisa Hance had an open look at the goal from 15 yards out just to the left of the left post and her shot went just wide of the goal.

Curry's goal at 72:03 came on a pass from Karleigh Zolinski that she settled, turned and put her right foot on the ball from 15 yards and into the corner of the goal. She completed her hat trick 65 second later when she was the beneficiary of a rebound off the post an an open net. Maddie Piranio's shot caromed off the left post and across the goal right to Curry five feet from the end line.

Gibbs made eight saves and stopped quite a few balls high in the box that could have been trouble for the Cardinals.

Hance led Lamar with five shots and two on goal.

Lamar will return to action next weekend when it travels to Central Arkansas and Northwestern State. Lamar and UCA (2-6, 0-1) will meet in Conway, Ark. on Friday at 4 p.m., while the Cardinals and NSU (6-4-1, 1-0) will face off in Natchitoches, La. on Sunday at 2 p.m.
