Lady Cards top Bearkats in overtime
Oct. 14, 2011 BEAUMONT, Texas - Kristin Bos scored 4:12 into the second overtime period to lift the Lamar University women's soccer team to a 2-1 Southland Conference victory over Sam Houston State on Friday evening. Bos scored on an assist from Lisa Hance, who had the other goal for the Lady Cardinals (7-5-1 overall, 4-0-0 conference), who set a school record for conference wins in a season. Sam Houston State (5-9-1, 1-3-0) broke a scoreless tie 18:45 into the second half when Kirby Zak intercepted a clearing attempt by Lamar goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs and rifled a shot into the net. That ended Gibbs' scoreless streak at a school record 333 minutes, 45 seconds. The Lady Cardinals tied the game exactly 11 minutes later when Hance scored from in front off of a corner kick by Grace Bowman. "That was a great win in conference," Lamar coach Dewi Hardman said. "We especially came after them in the second half." Lamar held a 30-17 advantage in total shots for the game, including 20-4 in the second half and overtime periods. Lamar returns home to host Stephen F. Austin in a battle for sole possession of first place in the conference at 1 p.m. Sunday. Stephen F. Austin improved to 5-0 in the conference with a 5-0 win over McNeese State on Friday. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715, or visit LamarCardinals.com. LAMAR
