With the inaugural season in the rear-view mirror, first-year head coach Dewi Hardman takes the Lamar women's soccer team on the road for the season opener at Texas Tech on Friday night. Kickoff against the Red Raiders in the newly constructed John Walker Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m.
Lamar went 0-1-1 in its two exhibition games and will be facing Tech for the first time. The Cardinals are 0-1 all-time against Big 12 schools, dropping a 4-0 decision to Nebraska last season. LU welcomes back 11 players from a year ago and seven newcomers.
Texas Tech went 7-8-2 in 2007 and qualified for the Big 12 Tournament for the first time since 1999 and matched the school-record for conference victories with a 5-4-1 mark. The Red Raiders defeated West Texas A&M 3-0 and played North Texas to a scoreless draw in their two preseason matches.
Friday's game will also be a matchup of former colleagues as Hardman faces his former boss Tom Stone. Prior to taking the Texas Tech head job in 2007 Stone was previously the Technical Director of the Tophat Soccer Club in Atlanta when he hired Hardman as the club's Director of Coaching back in 2006.
