Pugliesi, Barry Earn Lamar's First-Ever SLC Weekly Soccer Honors

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced the soccer players of the week for September 9, as Lamar senior Aline Pugliesi and redshirt freshman Rachelle Barry are awarded offensive and defensive honors respectively. Sam Houston State sophomore Jenny Pence receives her first and team's first weekly award of the season.

These also marked the first-ever SLC soccer awards for the Lamar program.

Offensive Player of the Week - Aline Pugliesi, Lamar
Pugliesi scored Lamar's first goal of the season on Friday when she gave LU a 1-0 lead over South Alabama in the 12th minute en route to the Cardinals first-ever win, a 2-1 triumph over South Alabama, avenging an 11-1 loss last year. Against ULL, she dribbled through four defenders and the Cajun GK to cut the bring LU within one goal in the 56th minute, and she is one of just five players in the SLC to rank among the top 10 in shots and goals. Honorable Mention: Kamryn Koch, MCN; Janae Lee, SFA; Luana Miessa, SHSU; Taylor Padia, UTSA.

Defensive Player of the Week - Rachelle Barry, Lamar
Netted the eventual game-winning goal at the 47:32 mark in the Cardinals first-ever win, a 2-1 triumph over South Alabama, avenging an 11-1 loss last year. She is now one of 18 players in the SLC to record a game-winning-goal this season, with none having more than 1. Honorable Mention: Brittany Foerstner, SHSU; Amanda Lackey, SFA; Ezinne Okpo, UTSA.

Goalkeeper of the Week - Jenny Pence, Sam Houston State
Played all 180 minutes in goal as Sam Houston extended its winning streak to three (a school record). All three wins have been shutouts, and the Bearkats have not given up a goal for 292 consecutive minutes (also a school record). Honorable Mention: Jennifer Gibbs, LU; Nicoline Joergensen, UTSA; Mandi Mawyer, TXST.
