Coming off a record-setting performance in Sunday's 6-1 win, the Lamar women's soccer team will travel to Norman, Okla. to face Oklahoma Friday night. Kickoff at John Crain Field is set for 7 p.m. with live stats and video being provided at lamarcardinals.com and soonersports.com.
Lamar, which is 1-5 on the season, is making its final non-conference road trip this weekend with its single game against the Sooners. This will be the first meeting between the schools in soccer.
LU is led offensively by Lisa Topping and Lisa Hance, who have combined for five of the team's 10 goals and four of their nine assists on the season. Topping ranks 24th nationally in assists per game with a 0.67 average. Her four in just six contests have already eclipsed the single-season mark of three, set last season by Carrie Mrazek.
Additionally, the Lady Cardinals have received goals from a total of seven different players and eight overall who have produced either a goal or an assist.
Jennifer Gibbs has played all 555 minutes in goal and made 33 stops on the season. As a freshmen in 2008 she saw 949 minutes in goal while stopping 48 shots.
Oklahoma enters with a 4-2-1 record but has dropped its last two games after starting the slate with four-consecutive victories. The Sooners are returning home to begin a four-game homestand. Those four victories to open the year were also at home and included a 3-0 win over Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State on Aug. 23.
Lamar will return home next weekend and unveil the state-of-the-art Lamar Soccer Complex when the Lady Cards welcome Grambling State, New Mexico State and Northwestern State to town for the inaugural Lamar Soccer Classic.
