BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University women's soccer team wraps up the road portion of its 2011 Southland Conference schedule with crucial contests at UTSA and Texas State this weekend.

The Lady Cardinals (7-6-1 overall, 4-1-0 conference) play at UTSA (6-7-1, 3-2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday before taking on Texas State (9-5-0, 4-1-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday. Lamar and Texas State enter the weekend tied for second place in the conference, while UTSA is tied for fourth place with Southeastern Louisiana. The top six teams qualify for the Southland Conference Tournament.

"We face two good teams this weekend," Lamar coach Dewi Hardman said. "UTSA won the conference tournament last season, and they will be a stern test. Texas State is playing well, but we have to worry about taking care of business at UTSA first."

The Lady Cardinals, who have already set school records for wins in a season and conference wins in a season, are 3-0 on the road in Southland games this season. Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs has posted a shutout in all of three of those wins.

"We're playing good defense," Hardman said. "Also, we've finally gotten over the phobia of winning on the road. We've picked up some confidence and momentum, and that's a big thing."

Freshman Kristin Bos leads Lamar in scoring with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Freshman Kimmy Albeno (5-3-13) and senior Lisa Hance (4-5-13) are tied for second in scoring.

"It speaks well for our future that we have two freshmen at the top of the scoring chart," Hardman said. Also, freshman Nicole Frank has been playing very well on defense for us."

Following this weekend, Lamar returns home to wrap up the regular season with games against Central Arkansas (7 p.m. Oct. 28) and Northwestern State (1 p.m. Oct. 30).
