Rachelle Barry Named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior Megan Cash has been named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Lamar sophomore Rachelle Barry has been named defensive player of the week while Nicholls sophomore Molly Mersereau has been named goalkeeper of the week. This is each player's first honor this season.
Offensive Player of the Week - Megan Cash, Stephen F. Austin Megan Cash, a senior from Austin, Texas (Cedar Park High School), posted her second career hat trick and the 10th in school history in a 6-0 win over Sam Houston State. Cash also assisted on a goal in the win over the Bearkats. The seven points she scored were a career-high and tied her for third on the Stephen F. Austin single-game list.
Honorable Mention: Lisa Hance, Lamar; Maiya Cooper, Southeastern Louisiana; Erica Michaud, Texas State.
Defensive Player of the Week - Rachelle Barry, Lamar Rachelle Barry, a sophomore from University Place, Wash., scored Lamar's second goal in a 3-0 win over Central Arkansas and anchored a defense that posted consecutive wins and shutouts for the first time in school history. This is her second career player of the week award after pickng up the same honor on Sept. 9, 2008.
Honorable Mention: Erin Leighton, McNeese State; Dana Mayer, Southeastern Louisiana.
Goalkeeper of the Week - Molly Mersereau, Nicholls Molly Mersereau, a sophomore from Riverside, Calif. (Riverside High School), faced 60 shots (27 on goal) and turned away 23 for a .852 save percentage and a 1.80 goals against average in a pair of matches last week. Mersereau recorded 11 saves in a 3-1 loss to Texas State Friday and made 12 saves in Sunday's 1-1 double overtime tie with UTSA. The draw with UTSA snapped Nicholls' 17-match conference losing streak.
