Lamar Hosts Southeastern La. and Nicholls For Final Home Weekend

The Lamar soccer team will play host to Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State at Cardinal Stadium in its final home games of the 2008 seasons. Kickoff agaisnt SLU is at 7 p.m. Friday, while Senior Day opens against Nicholls at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Lady Cardinals are led offensively by senior Aline Pugliesi, who has scored three of the team's seven goals this season. Freshman Jennifer Gibbs (2.40 GAA) and junior Jessica Winters (2.97 GAA) have split time in the net for a much-improved Lamar defense.

The second-year program will honor its first set of seniors prior to Sunday's contest as Yureli Gomez, Leslie Myers and Aline Pugliesi will be recognized.

Southeastern picked up its most dramatic win of the season on Sunday, as Meaghan Krawczyk broke a scoreless tie seven minutes into overtime to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 win over UCA. In Friday's 1-0 win over the Lady Demons, Dana Mayer was the hero for Southeastern, scoring the game-winning goal early in the second half.

Mayer and Krawczyk have been a big part of a Southeastern offense that has scored 41 goals this season. Senior Kristin McDonald leads the team with seven goals on the season, followed by Mayer and Krawczyk with five goals apiece. Natalie Santana leads the Southland Conference with eight assists - the fourth-highest single-season total in school history. Candice Wallace is second on the team with five assists and needs one more assist to crack the school's career top 10.

Nicholls is 2-13 on the season and has droppe 13-consecutive after earning victories over Southern and Texas Southern to open the year. The Lady Colonels scored three goals in losses to UCA and Northwestern State last weekend.

 

 

Kaity Mattsson and Alicia Gautreau lead the team in points with 12 and nine resprectively, as Mattson has six goals and Gauteau has added three goals and three assists. Caitlyn Donegan has accounted for six points with one goal and a team-high four assists.

Sarah Damen has been in goal for most of the season with a team-high 722 minutes played and has a 5.23 goals-against-average.
