BEAUMONT, TexasStephanie Meeuwsen and Lauren Gambone each drove in three runs to lead Lamar University to a 9-6 win over Lamar State College-Port Arthur in an exhibition softball game at Ford Park on Friday night.

Ashley McDowell added three hits for Lamar, while Taylor Duck had a home run and a double on the night for Lamar, which rallied from an early 5-1 deficit for the win.

“We need to do a better job at the start of the game,” Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. “We did a great job battling back, but you’re not always going to rally from big deficits.”

Tina Schulz picked up the win in relief.

Lamar plays three games at the LSU Tournament on Oct. 6.

“We are going to face some tough competition at LSU,” Bruder said. “These games are definitely getting us ready for the spring.”
