BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University softball coach Holly Bruder has appointed Candyce Carter, Casey Cromwell and Tina Schulz as captains for the upcoming season, Lamar's first softball campaign since 1987.
"All three of them are leaders," Bruder said. "They all have softball at the forefront. They're all good students, and good players as well."
Carter (Sweeny, Texas) and Schulz (Spring, Texas) are juniors, while Cromwell (Danville, Ill.) is a sophomore.
"I think it's a good mix," Bruder said. "They all have college playing experience, and know what it takes to succeed."
The team voted on the captains for this season after the candidates spoke to the team regarding their strengths as potential captains.
"I think all three earned the respect of their teammates," Bruder said. "I think they will do a tremendous job."
Lamar opens up the season at 2 p.m. Feb. 9, when it hosts UTSA in a doubleheader at Ford Park. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715, or visit www.LamarCardinals.com.
