Lamar University senior Tina Schulz was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and Pitcher of the Week for her efforts that helped the Lady Cardinals go 4-0 on the week and move into a first-place tie in the conference with Central Arkansas.
Schulz hit .538 on the week (7-of-13) with three home runs and eight RBIs as the Lady Cardinals (9-10 overall, 4-1 Southland) swept a non-conference doubleheader at Southern and a conference twin bill at Nicholls.
In addition, Schulz pitched two complete-game victories, posting an ERA of 0.54 over 13 innings. She walked two and struck out five.
Schulz is the first Lamar softball player to win a weekly award this season and the first Southland Conference player to sweep the awards this spring.
“Tina played like an All-American this week,” Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. “She had some big hits, including a home run that I think is just coming down now. On top of that, she did a great job pitching. I couldn’t be prouder of her.”
