BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals have their hands full as they look to snap their four-game losing streak Tuesday.

The Lady Cardinals (12-14) travel to Waco, Texas, to meet the 12th-ranked Baylor Bears (27-6) in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. Tuesday. A live audio broadcast will be available at

"This will be one of the toughest teams we will face all season," Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. "They have tremendous hitting and pitching. We have to be at the top of our game."

The Bears, who hit .320 as a team, are led by Kaitlyn Thumann's .455 batting average. Clare Hosack has team bests of nine home runs and 33 RBIs. Baylor has outscored its opponents 180-61 this season.

Heather Stearns (10-1, 1.10) and Whitney Canion (15-5, 1.51) are Baylor's top two pitchers.

Tina Schulz leads Lamar in hitting (.371), RBIs (20), slugging percentage (.686) and stolen bases (4). She is tied with Casey Cromwell for the team lead in home runs with six.

Schulz also leads Lamar with a 3.81 ERA to go along with a 5-7 record. Shannon Millman (6-7, 4.20) leads Lamar with 41 strikeouts.

This is the first time the teams have met since 1984, when the Bears were 3-0 against Lamar.

Following Tuesday's game, the Lady Cardinals return to Ford Park for a five-game homestand. Lamar hosts Houston Baptist in a three-game Southland Conference series starting with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Saturday followed by a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Lady Cardinals enter the week tied for second place with Central Arkansas at 7-4, one game behind McNeese State. Houston Baptist is tied with Sam Houston State for fourth place with a 7-5 record.

"Obviously, we have a huge conference series ahead of this weekend," Bruder said. "But right now, we have to focus on Baylor."
