BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals head to the University of Houston for a non-conference softball doubleheader against the Cougars at 2 p.m. Thursday. The twinbill was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was rescheduled due to weather.

Lamar (15-21) comes into the doubleheader after winning one of three games at Northwestern State, taking the first game 5-3 in 10 innings before dropping back-to-back-game by scores of 9-1 and 8-2. Lamar is in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Southland Conference with a 6-6 mark.

Lamar's 15 wins are one shy of the school mark of 16, set in 1986, when the Lady Cardinals went 16-19.

Candyce Carter leads the Lady Cardinals in hitting at .374. Carter and Ashley McDowell are tied for the team lead in home runs with six, one shy of the school record of seven, set by Donna Dugas in 1987, Lamar's last year of softball before this season.

Jenna Holland, who is second on the Lady Cardinals with a .299 batting average, leads Lamar with 17 RBIs. As a team, Lamar is hitting .258 this season.

Left-hander Shannon Millman (9-9, 4.38) and right-hander Tina Schulz (4-7, 4.03) are the likely pitching starters for Lamar.

Houston (22-10) has four starters hitting better than .300, led by Holly Anderson, who sports a .381 batting average. Katie St. Pierre is hitting .373; Haley Outon is hitting .346 with team bests of nine home runs and 27 RBIs. Kayla Holland has a .321 batting average.

Bailey Watts (13-3, 1.86) leads the Houston pitching staff. As a team, the Cougars have a 2.25 ERA with six shutouts.

"Houston will be a very good test for us," Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. "They can do everything well. I think facing a pitching staff like theirs will definitely help us when we return to conference play."

Both games of Thursday's doubleheader will air live on

Following Thursday's action, Lamar returns home to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a three-game Southland Conference series at Ford Park.
