BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals, fresh off a three-game sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, head to College Station, Texas, for a non-conference softball doubleheader at ninth-ranked Texas A&M at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

"I think this is the toughest team we will face all season," Lamar coach Holly Bruder said of the 31-7 Aggies. "I can't think of anything they don't do well."

Texas A&M is 21-2 at home this season, including a 17-0 mark against non-conference opponents. The Aggies are hitting .307 overall this season and have outscored their opponents 236-91.

"Facing teams of this quality definitely helps us," Bruder said. "You get better by playing great teams."

Lamar (18-23) is led by Candyce Carter, who is hitting .382 with eight home runs (a school record) and 22 RBIs. Jenna Holland is hitting .304 with 22 RBIs. The school record for RBIs is 25, set by Donna Dugas in 1987. Carter leads the Southland Conference with 83 total bases, four shy of Dugas' school record of 87 set in 1987.

Texas A&M is led by Nicole Morgan, who is hitting .400 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. Cali Lanphear has 12 home runs and Meagan May has 10 home runs for the Aggies, who have hit 63 home runs this season.

Pitcher Mel Dumezich is 22-5 with a 1.87 ERA to lead the Texas A&M pitching staff. Dumezich has 176 strikeouts in 160 2/3 innings this season.
