Lamar's Game Notes
BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals host Southeastern Louisiana in a crucial three-game Southland Conference softball series this weekend at Ford Park.
The series opens with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Saturday before wrapping up with a single game at 2 p.m. Sunday. Lamar (18-25 overall, 9-6 Southland) is tied for third place with Sam Houston State, a half-game behind Northwestern State and a game ahead of Southeastern Louisiana (25-14, 8-7) and Nicholls. The top six teams in the 10-team conference qualify for next month's conference tournament at Northwestern State.
"Every weekend is a big weekend the rest of the way," Lamar coach Holly Bruder
said. "We have four series remaining in conference play, and our goal is to win each series."
Southeastern Louisiana comes in off a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State on Wednesday by scores of 10-1 and 10-0. The Lady Lions are hitting .296 as a team and have scored 10 or more runs on nine occasions this season. Katie Lacour leads Southeastern Louisiana with a .439 batting average. Amber Sather has team highs of seven home runs and 34 RBIs. Right-hander Rachael Hellyer leads the pitching staff with a 10-1 record and a 2.04 ERA.
"Southeastern Louisiana is a tough team," Bruder said. "They hit the ball well and their pitching is solid. We have our work cut out for us."
Lamar's Candyce Carter continues to lead the Southland Conference in total bases with 85. Her 41 total bases in conference play also lead the SLC. Carter leads Lamar with a .375 batting average. Left-hander Shannon Millman (12-10, 4.18) has a Southland best eight wins in conference play.
Carter and Beverly Corry lead Lamar with eight home runs apiece.
