BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals wrap up the home portion of their 2014 softball schedule by hosting Louisiana-Monroe in a non-conference doubleheader at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Ford Park. The opening game will be the 100th Lamar softball game since reviving the program last season.

Lamar is 26-12 in its two seasons at Ford Park, but the Lady Cardinals are on a three-game skid at home after having been swept by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the weekend. Overall, Lamar (19-21) is on a five-game losing streak.

Softball drops doubleheader at Louisiana-Monroe
Stephanie Meeuwsen belted two home runs in one game, but the Lamar Lady Cardinals dropped both ends of a non-conference softball doubleheader at Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday.

"We have to find a way to bounce back," Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. "We have an important Southland Conference series at Stephen F. Austin this weekend, and we have to use these games as a way to prepare for SFA. I think ULM and SFA are similar in a lot of ways."

The Lady Cardinals are third place in the Southland Conference, one game behind second-place Sam Houston State and three games behind conference-leading McNeese State with six games remaining. The top six teams qualify for next month's Southland Conference Tournament in Hammond, La. Lamar holds a three-game lead over Central Arkansas, the seventh-place team.

Beverly Corry, one of five Lady Cardinals who have played in all 99 Lamar games since the program's return, leads Lamar with a .321 batting average. Casey Cromwell, another one who has played all 99 games, is hitting .318. Candyce Carter, Jenna Holland and Stephanie Meeuwsen are the others who have not missed a game over the past two seasons.

Louisiana-Monroe is 19-19 on the season. The Warhawks are at Southeastern Louisiana for a non-conference game on Tuesday before making their way to Beaumont for Wednesday's twin bill.

Rochelle Roberts leads the Warhawks with a .388 batting average. Miyuki Navarrete is hitting .365 to go along with 34 stolen bases in 38 attempts.

"ULM is a quick team. They are going to score some runs. We just have to limit their chances and make the most of the opportunities they give us," Bruder said.

Wednesday is Faculty Appreciation Day as each of the Lady Cardinals honors a faculty member who has had a positive influence on them during their time at Lamar. Tickets for Wednesday's doubleheader are available online at, or by calling (409) 880-1715. Tickets are available at the Montagne Center ticket office during regular business hours. Tickets will be available at Ford Park one hour prior to first pitch on a cash-only basis.
