BEAUMONT, Texas – Twenty-one home games and three in-season tournaments highlight the 2013 Lamar University softball schedule that was released today as the school brings back softball for the first time since 1987.
“This is a very ambitious schedule,” Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. “We will play some very challenging teams. I think our non-conference schedule will get us ready for Southland Conference play.”
The Lady Cardinals, who play eight exhibition games this fall, open the spring season Feb. 9 when they host UTSA in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Lamar’s first conference home date is March 23, when the Lady Cardinals host Sam Houston State in a twinbill.
Lamar is slated to play in-season tournaments at South Alabama, Texas and UT Arlington on consecutive weekends after the season-opening set against UTSA.
“I think those tournaments will help bring the team together,” Bruder said. “They will get acclimated to each other.”
The Lady Cardinals will play all of their home games at Ford Park in Beaumont. Ticket information will be announced at a later date.
