BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University softball coach Holly Bruder announced that Brynn Baca, a catcher/infielder from Round Rock, Texas, signed a National Letter of Intent and is attending Lamar this semester.
Baca, who graduated from Round Rock High School a year early, played three seasons for Round Rock High School Last season, she hit .517 with two home runs, 32 RBIs and 30 runs scored as the Dragons went 26-6. She was named the District 16-5A Defensive Player of the Year and was named first-team All-Centex catcher.
“I wanted to be part of a winning program, and I believe Lamar softball definitely fits that part,” Baca said. “I wanted to play Division I softball, and Lamar seemed perfect for me.”
Baca was an academic all-district selection in each of her three years at Round Rock. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the Spanish National Honors Society.
“Doing what she needed to do in order to graduate in three years is a testament to her hard work and dedication to Lamar,” Bruder said of Baca. “She’s a versatile player who can depth. I believe she can contribute this season.”
Baca makes her first appearance with the Cardinals this weekend when Lamar hosts San Jacinto College in a fall exhibition game at 4 p.m. Saturday at Port Neches-Groves High School.
Lamar went 24-35 overall last season, its first season of softball since 1987. The Cardinals finished fifth in the Southland Conference with a 14-13 record.
