Honkofsky named to softball staff
Sept. 13, 2011
BEAUMONT, Texas - Allison Honkofsky has been hired as Lamar University's new assistant softball coach, head softball coach Holly Bruder announced Tuesday.
Honkofsky comes to Lamar from Morehead State, where she was a member of Bruder's staff for the past two seasons. Bruder was recently named Lamar's coach as the school prepares to bring softball back in the 2013 season.
"Hiring Allison was a no-brainer," Bruder said. "She's a tremendous recruiter and is very good at practices and game operations. We both share a passion and excitement for softball."
Honkofsky played two season at Morehead State (2007, 2008), appearing in 91 games. A dependable shortstop, Honkofsky hit .248 with three home runs as a senior. As a senior, she helped lead Morehead State to a 34-16 record, the best mark in school history. She received the university's Eagle Award, as the best all-around athlete.
Prior to Morehead State, Honkofsky played one season at Rhode Island before transferring to North Florida Community College, where she earned second-team all-conference honors at shortstop.
"I'm very excited to be at Lamar," Honkofsky said. "I'm looking forward to building a program from the ground up."
