BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University softball team made sure Halloween was a treat for youngsters at the Baptist Hospital Behavioral Unit on Thursday.
Lamar student-athletes, coaches and staff dressed up in a variety of costumes to spend quality time with those who were confined to the hospital on the much-anticipated holiday.
“We’re happy to help them celebrate Halloween,” Lamar head coach Holly Bruder said. “I know it helps cheer them up.”
The players dressed as everything from Dr. Seuss characters to food items to superheroes, although they all appeared to be heroes in the eyes of the young ones.
“We were able to bring them some fun and laughter,” Bruder said. “It doesn’t get any better than that.”
The kids weren’t the only ones having a blast, however.
“The players really enjoy it,” Bruder said. “A lot of credit goes to assistant coach Allison Honkofsky. She is really trying to get our players involved in the community. We know how important it is, and we’re going to continue to do it.”
